My first post on PrayTell

The “Santa vigil” and principles for engaging young Christians in liturgy

Is this a good way to let you all know I've made a post over there, or would you rather I remained silent?

Yes! I don't feel ready to commit to adding the praytellblog to my RSS feed just yet, but I do want to read your posts (nice discussion going on over there, too, it looks like).

Why do you abstain from doing the Santa gig with the kids?

I vote for posting a link (like this one) or crossposting.

Thanks, all. Laura, it's complicated, but the main reason is we don't want to feel like we're not telling our kids the whole truth. And as they get older, we don't want them to feel like they're letting us down by figuring out the truth, or vice versa.

We really didn't put a lot of stress on it one way or another; we just don't have Santa gifts at home. But Thomas has already got it all figured out: St Nicholas in books is "real Santa," all other Santas are "pretend Santas" -- a very elegant solution that seems almost too easy!
